IN A NUTSHELL
The Short Version
Type A is a four-piece live band from Austin, Texas, playing 90s and 2000s party rock: Weezer, Blink-182, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, and plenty more. Peter Zovath (vocals, guitar), George Gomez (lead guitar), Steve Hudson (drums), and Barry Kidder (bass) have been playing bars, festivals, weddings, and corporate events across Central Texas since 2011. In 2024, Dripping Springs voted us its Best Local Band.
HOW IT STARTED
We Technically Started as a Different Band
Peter got asked to join a four-piece called Shifting Gears. They played two shows, and then the original members left one at a time until he was the last guy standing in a band he didn't start.
The replacements turned up in unlikely places. George was at a friend's poker night when he overheard Peter say he needed a lead guitarist, so he turned around and said he played guitar. Dave, our original bassist, heard we needed a bass player while he and Peter were out playing paintball. Steve answered a Craigslist ad after we'd gone through about three drummers, and one jam settled it.
Once most of the lineup was new, keeping the old name felt weird. We couldn't agree on much back then, but we all loved the 90s and we all had Type A personalities. That's the official story, anyway. George tells it best.
In 2026 Dave hung up his bass, and Barry Kidder took over the low end. Barry's son and Peter's daughter are best friends, and the two dads got to talking on the sidelines at soccer practice. Turns out Barry played bass and had been filling in for his brother-in-law, Austin singer-songwriter Graham Wilkenson. Peter asked if he'd be up for more than fill-ins, and here we are.

How We Build a Rockin' Night
Remember the scene in High Fidelity where Rob explains the rules of a great mixtape? That's pretty much how we run a show. Open with something that grabs people, then build, then give everybody a breather before you take them higher. The order of the songs matters as much as the songs themselves.
It took us a few years to figure that out. We started with deep cuts we loved, and crowds nodded politely at songs they'd never heard. Then we overcorrected into nothing but radio hits, and everyone could tell our hearts weren't in it. Now we play songs we actually love that the whole room knows too, and we read the crowd to decide what comes next.
A birthday group screaming for Blink gets a different night than a couple who wandered in for one drink. The set list isn't carved in stone, and after this long Steve swears we can basically read each other's minds.
